Telusian Dreams « on: 05/26/2005 16:44:56 »

In the searchlight of a police helicopter, the unsettled waters of San Francisco Bay billowed in translucent shades of jade. The report of a aircraft down in the bay had come from more than enough observers to capture their attention and desperate search efforts. The search would go on for more than an hour before confirmation from the FAA was received. There were no flights scheduled in that area at that time. The police continued the search, anyway. People saw it. FAA records could not account for un-filed flight plans. Although they suspected it was an illegal drug operation that ended in tragedy, they were duty bound to do their best. Six hours later they gave up the search.

A hundred and sixty feet below the surface of the moderately calm early morning waters of the bay, there rested a simple, translucent sphere. It had sat there at the bottom of the entrance to the bay throughout the police search efforts. In less than two hours, the Coast Guard divers would be called in to investigate the murky waters more thoroughly. They would find nothing. The simple sphere had already partially dissolved a perfect circle facing skyward.

A sudden explosive exhale from within the sphere blew the top off, scattering schools of fish for a hundred yards around. A slinky figure with a silhouette resembling the monster in the classic horror flick, Creature from the Black Lagoon, exited the opening and swam hastily upward. Moments before the figure reached the surface, the sphere glowed red, blue, then white hot, boiling sea water around it. In seconds it simply boiled away.

The figured swam around and pointed back down toward where the celestial diving bell had been, and clicked with a sound that seemed to indicate satisfaction. Turning again toward the surface, the figure swam just below the gentle waves at a speed to rival a dolphin. A few minutes later, it rose from the ocean and walked slowly up the beach toward the restaurant and entertainment area that lined it.

As it came from the water, light from the moon above glistened and refracted from its skin. The major component of that skin was a living form of silicon. Curled horns sprang from where ears would have been expected. Parts of the skin were transparent, others translucent. Bones and teeth could be seen through the jaw. The silence with which this creature moved was chilling. Water seemed to follow its skin and glide back into the ocean; not even forming a bubble.

The lights of a restaurant that catered in common seafood fare cast blue and silver shadows on either side of the darker shadow left by the moon. The figure continued persistently to the boardwalk.

As it moved, something vaguely nauseating swam over the silky silicon of its skin. Fleshy tones appeared in chaotic patchwork over the figure's entire body until its appearance had changed. By the time the figure stepped into the lamplight of the boardwalk, it appeared as a beautiful woman in her mid-twenties, dark of hair and eyes with olive skin. Everything about her appearance was what the male human population would have considered seductive and inviting. Completely naked, she stepped onto the boardwalk and turned to follow where it led. Some passers-by smiled and pointed, others hid their mouths and tittered, mothers hid their children from the early morning sight -- most figured she was a brazen prostitute with a simple marketing strategy. She was beautiful.

Demonica, recent arrival from the Telusian system surrounding a star more than 100 light years distant, had arrived. Despite her appearances, she ain't pretty. She just looks that way.
