City in the Shadow of the Soul -- OOC comments. « on: 09/16/2005 00:19:18 »

I don't want to be a thorn in anyone's side ... but I'm a bit worried about the momentum in this story. Zandar has set out a number of interesting premises in it, and for the most part everyone has played along. However, I am having a problem with the storyline as played by Angel of Ashes.

Firstly, I am pretty sure that Andromorphia has an issue with god-moding. The character as played by Angel of Ashes comes pretty close to that definition, if not walking over it. I don't want to walk over anyone's toes, and I hope we can all play well and further the story. Yet I feel that AoA is playing his part without a lot of furthering of the plot. In fact, the plot is going stale and I am losing interest.

In the interest in keeping the quality of the story moving, and not just stuck in Zandar's home ... can we find some weaknesses and some balance in this Hunter character? Because, and I am being frank here ... the Hunter makes no sense to me at all. At least in the context of the story.

I think the whole idea of damage to the clan and Zandar's plans is fine. But it seems to be happening in a sort of "Q" (from Star Trek the next Generation) state of mind. Which, frankly again, irritates me.

Anyone with me on this, or am I whizzing in the wind?

It's a wonderful story line. I like it. But it is getting a bit boring with this whole power trip on the Hunter's part. Too much, too soon and without a lot of character building. I mean ... it is hard to believe. Ya know? Maybe if the Hunter could detail his weaknesses so the story doesn't just end up with everyone dead and him alone.

It's your storyline, Zandar. But I have to say it is getting stuck with this whole power trip thing with the Hunter.

Any thoughts?

I have to agree with Stone on this matter. Although the plotline has a lot of potential, it has jumped way off track and become stale, it seems, for everyone except AoA, who appears to be having a jolly old time.

In the 15yrs that I have been writing/roleplaying, I have come to learn the necessity of flaws and weaknesses in a character. Otherwise, the story flails and the rest of the characters become useless. While playing the ultimate character is tempting, even fun for the person controlling them, it isn't so much fun for the people playing well balanced characters. Those characters are most often played by GM‘s to keep the story in line and running smoothly.

It is also a good idea to set the structure of the character in the beginning so that everyone has a clear picture of what they are to expect. When the story began, I had a distinct idea of each character, but the character played by AoA seems to change with every post. As it stands, I'm not exactly sure what the character is, or how to deal with it, for that matter. To be honest, I feel like I'm caught in a rerun of DragonballZ, and unless Lark gets to turn Super Saiyan, that's not much fun.

By no means am I trying to insult here, don't get me wrong, this is just constructive criticism. I created Lark specifically to play in The City, but so far, I haven‘t had the chance to really flesh her out as a character and I find myself at a loss when trying to write as her. The story is so chaotic right now, that I‘m having a hard time finding the motivation to try keeping up with it. It needs structure, definition and balance. It isn't my call as to what to do about it, I can only offer my 2 cents.

Ok... I suppose Zandar's writer must come forth and shed some ground rules. *mutters* As I've mentioned before, I've been roleplaying for 17+ years. I used to have somewhere upwards of $3500 in D&D, AD&D, VtM, WoD, and WtA gaming manuals, just to mention a few. My creation of The City had come to me ages ago. I thought it would be neat to make it possible to roll all those formats into one place, one realm per say. Hence...The City. I found Andromorphia on a whim, purely accidental, just another WOW!!! In the world that is the Internet. I saw an opportunity to breathe life into the RP dream I'd had.

I was very impressed with how quickly people took to the story. It seemed as if The City was going to stretch to new heights and widths. The story is amazing, imagine... an entire world where all creatures of the night can wander in search of...a storyline. *smirks* Then it happened, I wasn't sure how long it would be, but I didn't expect it to happen so fast. Someone decided to kill someone outside a nightclub. AoA, I want you to know that I allowed you to open this portion of the story up. Remember, I mentioned in my opening to this thread, that mortals were generally ignorant to the existence of...night creatures. You killed a Lycan, and left the body in plain view.

Your reaction to my reply to your activities was rather interesting. I wasn't expecting you to stand in front of News reporters and harm the body of the dead Lycan. You then chose to essentially take control of...*hates the way this is going to sound*...my story. You caused the coming of the Lycan Frenzy. This didn't seem to be enough to satiate your need for carnage. I'd rp'ed along with your coming storm of lycan horde and killed countless mortals in the view of the public...ie news reporters. So now you know that the whole of The City watched something that just can't be explained in the natural sense of understanding. You brought life to an entire population's nightmares.

Again I allowed this to occur, it was going to happen eventually. You still were not satisfied with the disruption you'd created. Then, came your apparent build in...phenomenal cosmic power. I've been Rp'ing with Zandar since I started doing this. He's the one and only character I've ever used in all my gaming. I will not allow myself to RP Zandar at his fullest capabilities. At the close of my tabletops days, Zandar trapped three deities in his pocket dimension. He's basically waiting for their worshipers to die off, so they'll cease to exist. This is the kind of power Zandar has. I know nothing of Centrantrons. In fact... I've never heard of them. They seem to be as powerful as Zandar was at the end of my tabletop days.

If you continue to play him like this...nothing but the destruction of The City will eventually occur. This of course will do nothing for the dream I'd had. It is true that all good things come to an end, but it's far too early for that. I'm asking that you...*uses Lark's reference to DBZ*...power Cydious Alexandros down. Your RP is pretty good. What you need, is to understand the limitations of a good character. I'm pretty sure your imagination is really vast, so anything that Zandar could come up with to fight you, would only be met with amazing defense and retaliation. "Q" has already caused the coming of the Apocolypse. *references Stone's Star Trek Next Gen* So I think the damage is done to the story. Allow me the opportunity to bring it back to life.

please reconsider your distructive storyline.

Thanks,
~Jeff~

So no feeling the evil Mod thing tonight. However, there are a few points that I would like to lay out, sorta FMI (for my info).

From the get go, let me state, I have not played in this thread. Unfortunately, I haven't even had the time to really read it. I've talked to some people about it, but that's as far as it goes.

God-modding is not allowed on this site. If you feel that it is occuring, you should PM the mods with references to the threads/posts, and ask them to handle it. Or you may choose to contact the writer in question in PM.

I don't want to see anyone's story ruined or taken away. That's not fair or right. If it was one person's idea, they should have some sort of control over it. One way to do this is to RSVP threads. That seems pretty selfexplanatory. Put it in the title, and the thread's yours (reference Dancing in the Dark - Krysondra/Itzl). Another way is to make an OOC area linked to the thread where these things can be discussed.

So, we'll give AoA a chance to let us know what's going on from his perspective, a chance to change the god-modding, just a chance. Then, we can go from there?

Did I manage to do all of that without stepping on anyone's toes? I hope so. Long day, and I probably shouldn't have posted, but I did want to make those points. Please don't be offended and hate me. I'm just the hired help.

I agree with your assessment, Krys. And I think that is what is being asked. Everyone needs a chance to make a correction here and there. I feel particularly interested in seeing Zandar's story work according to his outline. If that requires an RSVP on the thread, then I'm sure Zandar will consider that.

Oh, and just a side comment: Never worry about stating your view. You were hired because you are qualified. Probably over-qualified. But don't think that means you can get a raise. *smiles*

I hope AoA can devise a direction that will work well with the story, and allow Zandar to further his story line.
